Joan Schell

Joan Schell, a resident of Woodruff, WI since 2003, passed away on June 5, 2018.

She was born in Arnsdorf, Bohemia, Czech Republic in 1923, the daughter of Hans and Elisabeth Morawetz (nee Feistner). She graduated from High School in Reichenberg, Leipzig, Germany; she was certified as an interpreter/translator in English, French and Spanish. She and her husband, Charles, were married in 1946 in Hof, Bavaria, Germany, were both worked for the American Military Government. After their marriage they lived in Des Plaines IL for 27 years. While her husband attended the University of Illinois Medical School and later completed his internship at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston Illinois, Mrs. Schell worked for 5 years for the City Attorney, and was also appointed Deputy City Clerk. Before their move to Wisconsin in 1977, where they had built a vacation home in 1966 on Island Lake on the Manitowish Chain, Vilas County, WI. Mrs. Schell was employed by American Colloid Company in Skokie, Illinois, where she held the job of Executive Secretary/Foreign Language Correspondent for several years.

In 1977, Dr. and Mrs. Schell built a home on Blue Lake in Minocqua where they lived for 26 years until their move to Woodruff in 2003.

Mrs. Schell is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Barbara (Richard) Mayo of Delaware, Ohio, and Mrs. Teresa (Ronald) Lewis of Oshkosh WI, and a son, John (Lynda) of Rifle, Colorado, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Her husband Dr. Charles A. Schell and a son, Gregory Martin, preceded her in death.

Private family funeral service will be held on Monday at Nimsgern Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at the St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery in Boulder Junction.
