Allen J. Scharbarth

August 31, 1932 — October 30, 2019

Allen J. Scharbarth, age 87 died on Wednesday, October 30th at Avanti Health and Rehab in Minocqua, WI. Allen grew up in Brillion, WI and was the son of Bill and Leona Scharbarth. Allen was nicknamed Ace and was an exceptional three-sport athlete while attending Brillion High School. Upon graduation, Allen enlisted in the US Navy for four years serving on a destroyer during the Korean War. After leaving the Navy, Allen eventually enrolled in mortuary school in Milwaukee, WI, but eventually took a job at a Red Owl Grocery Store in Green Bay, WI. Al and his wife, Mary, left Green Bay in 1967 to manage a Red Owl store in Merrill, WI. In 1972 Allen bought the store and it became Al’s Red Owl. Al owned the store for four years and in 1975 the family moved to Spencer, WI and Al managed the grocery store located there for two years before becoming an employee at Land O Lakes Cheese in Spencer.

Upon retirement, Al moved to Minocqua, WI. Lakeland T-Bird football fans will likely remember seeing Al prowling the sidelines of most T-Bird football games. Al lived in Hiawatha Park where he had many friends. Residents there will remember the friendly man who walked his dogs many times each day and always stopped to say hello. Al was very fortunate to live a very healthy life right up until he was diagnosed with lung cancer just six months ago. Al fought a valiant fight and he now is pain free. He is probably watching Badger football, U Conn women’s basketball, or the Chicago Bears with his dog Cindy on his lap while sipping an old fashion waiting for his other favorite dog Cheerio to join him.

Al is survived by his children: Don (Tracey) Scharbarth, Lisa (John) Urlaub, Jon (Kelly) Scharbarth, and Vicki (Jerry West) Scharbarth and grandchildren: Tyler (Jill), Abby Scharbarth, Morgan Neal, Alli and Zach Scharbarth and Hannah Seay and by his brother Rolain Scharbarth and his dog Cheerio.

He was preceded in death by his parents William and Leona and his brothers Wilbur and Kenneth and by his son Michael and dog Cindy.

Memorial Service for Al will be held on Sunday, November 3rd at 3:00 pm at Nimsgern Funeral Home Chapel with a memorial gathering from 1:00 pm till time of service.
