David "Whitey" Nowak

September 13, 1930 — April 4, 2019

David R. “Whitey” Nowak, age 88 of Land O’ Lakes, WI died on Thursday, April 4th at the Seasons of Life Hospice House in Woodruff, WI. Whitey was born on September 13, 1930 in Milwaukee, WI the son of Ollie and Mary (nee Czaplewski) Nowak. He graduated from Bay View High School in Milwaukee, WI and married Bernice Bartaczewicz on November 9, 1957.

Whitey was co-owner and operator of Whitey’s Outpost in Land O’Lakes for 25 years. Whitey was interviewed by reporter, Jim Lee of the Wausau Herald making the front page on August 20, 1981-“Whitey Nowak puts Cisco Chain on the map”

He was a lifetime member of the Cudahy Gun Club and member of the American Trap Shooting Association. Whitey was the state of Wisconsin Trap Shooting Doubles Champion and he loved to fish, duck hunt and trapshooting with his family.

Whitey always had a story to tell and shared fishing hotspots, as well as what to use and how with anyone that was interested. To know him was to love him. He made many friends throughout the years with his work at the bait shop and he valued these friendships long after they closed the doors.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years; Bernice of Land O’Lakes, WI and by dearest son Robert (Amy) Nowak and proud grandpa of Morgan and Maxwell Nowak all of Woodruff, WI. Further survived by his brother in law Herb Bartaczewicz and sister in law Rosie Bartaczewicz and by numerous nieces and nephews and by special nephew Dick (Sue) Nowak.

All those that are welcoming Whitey home are his parents Mary and Ollie Nowak and siblings: Al (Alice) Nowak, Gene (Blanche) Nowak, Ed (Madeline) Nowak, Dorothy Nowak, Esther Nowak, Florence (Al) Szatkowski and by his parents in law Clara and John Bartaczewicz and his brothers and sisters in law: John (Joan) Bartaczewicz, Stan (Audrey) Barton, Pete Bartaczewicz, Wally Bartaczewicz, Delores Bartaczewicz and his many furry four-legged friends.

Upon Whitey’s wishes cremation took place and no formal services will be held.
