Dorothy "Dottie" Moffat

March 23, 1944 — April 18, 2021

On Sunday, April 18, 2021 we lost “One of the Best” when Dorothy ‘Dottie’ Louise Moffat, age 77, passed away quietly. Dottie brought joy and encouragement to her family, extended family, friends, and the Lakeland community. She is sadly missed. Dottie, born on March 23, 1944 to Donald and Dorothy (Clark) Moffat in Chicago loved her summers in the Northwoods of Wisconsin and in 1977 made this area her home.

Dottie earned her bachelor’s from UW Superior, but degrees and awards were never what she pursued; it was to love and bring value to others. She poured herself into her children, grandchildren, co-workers and friends, always knowing how to make each one feel special, valued, and important.

This same motivation and life passion led her into work for over 40 years as a selfless advocate for women's health and alcohol and drug abuse treatment in rural Wisconsin, making a huge impact wherever she served. In 1977 Dottie began her healthcare career at Lakeland Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse as a substance abuse counselor, followed by an Employee and Student Assistance program trainer and eventually Executive Director of Lakeland Council. Following a merger with Howard Young Medical Center, Dottie became a vice president of several departments. She was instrumental in the development of One Penny Place and creating many services targeting underserved populations. She worked tirelessly to obtain grants to develop programs including On Different Ground and the Tri-County Women's Outreach Program. Consulting became her next passion following her retirement from Howard Young Medical Center. She went on to develop and collaborate with many local, state and tribal programs including the Human Service Center for Oneida, Vilas and Forest County, White Pine Consulting and most recently The Hope Consortium, Marshfield Clinic Center for Community Health Advancement. In 2016 Dottie was honored as a Woman of the Year, Champion of Women's Health by the Wisconsin Women's Health Foundation.

Beyond being the greatest cheerleader for her family, Dottie’s interests and hobbies over the years have included farming, fishing, board games, CT’s Deli outings, puzzles, and numerous Vegas and local casino trips with great friends. Later in life, she took up golfing and became a passionate Wisconsin sports fan, closely following the Brewers, Bucks and Packers.

When asked to describe Dottie, many would use words like: friend, wise, team-player, compassionate, fun, servant, listener, mentor, creative, content, non-judgmental, inclusive and selfless.

Dottie is survived by her three children, Tom Jordens of Rhinelander, John Jordens (Cheryl) of Stevens Point, Mary Jordens of Oshkosh and 6 grandchildren Cassidy Apps, Kristen Jordens, Allyson Jordens, Jordan Smith, Mandy Jordens, Rainey Jordens; Her nephew Will Moffat and nieces, Julie Ann Moffat, Jill Lawson. Dottie is preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers William ‘Billy’ Moffat and Don Moffat.
