Florence Mae Brooker

Florence Mae Brooker (nee Behn) age 84 of Sayner, WI died on Monday, January 26th at the Seasons of Life Hospice House in Woodruff, WI. She was born in Campbellsport, Wisconsin to John & Erna Behn on October 15, 1930. At age 4, the family moved to Merrill, WI, where John left the family and went on to a new life. Erna met and married Elmer Raichle and moved the family to Arbor Vitae, WI.

Florence met Richard Brooker and they married on November 4, 1950, in the Community Church in Boulder Jct. She and (Richard) Dick settled in Sayner, which was his home town. They had seven children, Donna (Trey) Brooks, Barbara Cashman, Sharon Brooker, Laura Olson, Robert Brooker, Almeda (Craig) Engebretson, and Richard Brooker Jr. Grandchildren include Bradley (Danyel) Brooker and Kevin Brooker (sons of Robert), Kendria Brooker (daughter of Butch), and Katy Brooker (daughter of Sharon), great grandchildren Lennex and Larkin (children of Bradley & Danyel).

Florence had three sisters and seven brothers, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Florence attended Arbor Vitae/Woodruff Grade School and High School until she dropped out in her junior year. After seven children, she completed her schooling and graduated along with her daughter, Laura from Eagle River Union High School in 1975.

She spent her life working for many local organizations, school club, fire department auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, and with her sister Helen was the co-founder of Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church. She owned and operated the Sayner Café from 1970 to 1983. She loved to crochet and write unpublished poetry and bake for the family.

Florence was preceded in death by her son Richard “Butch” Brooker Jr. and her son-in-law Ron Olson.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 31st at Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church in Sayner, WI from 12 noon to 2:00 PM with Memorial Service at 2:00 PM with luncheon to follow services.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations to Seasons of Life Hospice House or Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church.
