Frank Robert Justin, Jr. died peacefully on July 6, 2016 at the Seasons of Life Hospice in Woodruff, Wisconsin.
Frank is survived by his three children, Susan Justin (wife of Allan Holzman), Steven Justin (husband of Elisa Farmilant), and Jeffrey Justin (husband of Micheline Chabana); six grandchildren, Justine and Shayne Holzman, Ashley Karchevsky (wife of Alex Karchevsky), and Ross, Sean and Sara Justin. Frank is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley; his brother Harold Justin, and sister Marge Carr.
Frank was born on January 22, 1926 at Oak Park Hospital in Illinois to Frank Robert Justin, Sr. and May Anna (Marsh) Justin. The family lived in Cicero at the time and later moved to Harvard, Illinois. After high school, in 1944, Frank entered the Army Air Corps, serving as a radio communications specialist and was stationed in Burma. His responsibilities included the refueling of U.S. cargo planes, which inspired his life long fascination for flying and building aircraft. Upon his return in 1949, he married Shirley Marie Rickert, younger sister of his high school hunting buddy Murphy. Frank and Shirley moved to Rosemead, California, to develop the west coast bakery and franchise for Bay’s English Muffins. In 1956, Frank started Justin Incorporated, a design and manufacturing company of electronic products, which continues to operate under the leadership of his son Jeffrey. As a pilot and hobbyist, Frank rebuilt and test piloted over 20 salvaged light aircraft in his home workshop, both in Arcadia, California and on Trout Lake in Boulder Junction in Wisconsin. Frank was an accomplished craftsman and designer. He was an adept storyteller - the life of every party, his humerous quips often resulting in a room full of laughter. Frank taught his sons how to fix anything and everything in the garage (including airplanes), and imparted a fierce love of music to his daughter. His family and friends remember him as a big, gentle, fun-loving man with a very quick wit and an innovative mind. He was supportive and loving of his wife and children in every way.
The family would like to thank Frank’s caregivers and his loving neighbors for their friendship, care and dedication. They are truly considered part of the extended family.
A celebration of Frank’s life will be held at Nimsgern Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, July 30, 2016, with a gathering from 1:30 PM and at 2:00 PM a Memorial by family followed by open sharing and Snacks & Sweets to follow.
