James Thomas Grosch

October 10, 1936 — October 26, 2014

James T. Grosch (“Jim“) of Timber Ridge, Minocqua, died on Sunday October 26 after a brief illness. He was 78 years old. Born and raised in Chicago and Itasca, Illinois, James joined the US Air Force after graduating from Bensenville High School in 1954. After three years in Amarillo, Texas, he moved his growing family (wife Judith and daughters Carla and Linda) to Anchorage, Alaska where Paula and Thomas were born and Jim spent time hunting moose and caribou and catching salmon and trout. Jim and Judy and the now complete family returned to the Chicago area in 1961 where Jim took a job at Illinois Grain at the Chicago Board of Trade. In time he became a trader and President of Garvey Commodities International.

Jim and Judy first bought a home in Lac du Flambeau in 1976 and moved full time to the region in 1994. He has been an active member of the Community Church of Lac du Flambeau and the American Legion Post 89, most recently enjoying the privilege of playing taps at the funerals of deceased former military men and women. He will be remembered as a hard-working, generous man of strong character who was committed to God and his family. He enjoyed woodworking; the signs for the Church on County D and 47 are his handiwork.

Jim is survived by his wife Judy, his daughters Carla Grosch-Miller (m. David), Linda Siragusa (m. Ander) and Paula Wickwire (m. James). His son Thomas Michael Grosch was killed in a motorcycle accident earlier this year. Nine grandchildren will remember him: Tammy Kosinski, James Kosinski, Katja Grosch, Thomas Parkinson, Margaret Youngblood, Anna Parkinson, Rebecca Grosch, Elizabeth Grosch and Abigail Grosch. Jim had the great pleasure of meeting his first great grandchild this past summer: Jane Okee Youngblood.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 1st at 11am at the Community Presbyterian Church of Lac du Flambeau, WI.
