John Kupris obituary John Joseph Kupris, age 99 passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Avanti Health and Rehab in Minocqua, WI. He was born in 1913 in Cicero, Illinois the youngest of four siblings with Lithuanian immigrant parents. John served in the Army Signal Corps in the Pacific Theatre during WWII and then in Korea. He was employed with fleet maintenance for Sears Roebuck Inc. and became a 60 year member of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. John had a passion for golden retrievers, ham radios, astronomy, computers, and any new concept in technology. He was a real character, a friendly fellow who was eager to banter with any one. His amateur radio call number was W91KH, and there was not a pine tree too tall or skinny for him to climb to install an antenna. He and his wife took their children on many countrywide camping trips on a shoestring budget. After he retired, he attentively took care of Dorothy during her final invalid years. Grandpa will be remembered and missed. He is survived by two Daughters: Joyce (Vincent) Hoehn and Judy (Nick) Hargis and two Step-Daughters: Lois Gerrie and Donna Tetmeir; and eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Kupris; his son, William John Kupris; and each of his brothers and sisters. Per his wishes, John was cremated and private family services were held. He expressed “Jingkulya” (Thank You) to all of the caring workers at Avanti Health and Rehab.
