John P Craig, age 91, of Minocqua, WI passed away Monday December 3, 2018 at Country Terrace Assisted Living in Minocqua. He was born July 4, 1927, the son of Clair and Anna (Wall) Craig of Gays Mills, WI. He married Pauline Doll on September 20, 1949 and they lived in Milwaukee and Town of Vernon, WI before retiring to their home on Big Bearskin Lake in Harshaw, WI. Pauline preceded him in death on November 14, 2015 and his son, Donald J “DJ” Craig preceded him in death on February 10, 2018.
John attended St Lawrence Seminary prior to meeting and marrying Pauline. Later he earned his Masters in Finance degree from Marquette University and became Treasurer and part owner of Benlo Chemical Co in West Allis, WI. After retiring to the Northwoods he spent his time as a volunteer “runner” at Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff, WI and golfing with his buddies. He was a long time member of the Catholic Knights and a devout member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He will be long remembered for his love of life, generosity and humor and the smile that lit up anyone who saw him.
John is survived by his daughter, Diane (Jim) Caracci and his brother Dan Craig of Cary NC and grandchildren Jason Craig and Jennifer Craig. He is also survived by his sisters in law Rose Wegschied of Wadena, MN, Muriel Doll of La Crosse, WI, Marie Griffith of Stayton, OR, brothers in law Tom (Lozetta) Doll of Lyle, WA and Willie (Cheri) Doll of Malta, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his son and his brothers Clair (Rose) Craig, Bill (Myrt) Craig, and sister Mary Ellen (Rocky) Shedivy and brothers and sisters in laws Mary G Craig, Adrian (Dorothy) Doll, Romy Weigshied, Donald Doll, Vernon Doll, Herb Doll, Chuck Griffith and Joan (Leo) Tapia.
Funeral Mass for John will be held on Friday, December 14th at 11:00 am at Holy Family Catholic Church with visitation from 10:00 am till time of service. Inurnment will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in the spring.
