Kieth Harold Bullion

January 22, 1949 — January 11, 2023

Kieth Harold Bullion, age 73 left this beautiful life on Earth January 11th at his home in Hazelhurst, to be with his wife in heaven.

Kieth was born in Milwaukee, WI on the 22nd of January 1949, he grew up on a farm in Dousman, WI where he raised a pet fox named Cagey. Where he also fell in love with canines having his first dog named Shock. His family later moved to the Northwoods to run a resort named the Log Cabin Inn. Kieth also did construction with his father and in his spare time loved hunting and fishing. Kieth graduated from LUHS in 1967. He left the wintry north to work on the Grand Prix Hotel in Florida when he was drafted to go to Vietnam in 1968.

After his one-year tour he got out and returned back home to the Northwoods. Some time later met the love of his life Trudy Ann Hella and got married to his beloved on the 2nd of October, 1971. Kieth re-enlisted in the Army to have Uncle Sam pay for their son’s birth and let Trudy see Europe. However, Kieth never got out and was a career solider for 22 ½ years till he retired June 1st, 1990.

In the military Kieth’s primary specialties were chemical and aviation operation specialist. He had 5 overseas tours (Vietnam, 2 in Germany, Berlin and Korea) in Korea he held down 2 E8 positions and 2 E9 positions. He also had 2 state side assignments; one being Fort Sheridan, IL and Fort Hood, Texas from where he had to move thousands of Troops in and out of the Mojave Desert via C130’s for training exercises called “Desert Horse” with 1st Cavalry Division.

Kieth retired off the DMZ of Korea as a Master Sergeant. Throughout his time in the service as an NCO he achieved multiple 11 decorations, ribbons, and medals. For his service operating at Division and Theater level force intelligence.

Upon retiring after traveling all over the world. He returned back to Hazelhurst with his family and built a home. He continued to work doing construction then working at a couple of hotels and enjoying retirement. Then tragedy struck Kieth with the passing of his wife on October 14, 2006.

Kieth had to fill that void so he got a schnauzer that he named Sergeant Major and Quaker Parrot he named the Colonel. However, that wasn’t enough, so he dedicated the rest of his life helping others especially Veterans. Kieth participated in the 40 & 8th, was a life member of the American Legion, VVA and the VFW.

One very prominent program Kieth ran as an Ambassador for the entire state of Wisconsin was “Freedom Team Salute.” He had a direct number to the Pentagon to head this operation. He contacted, coordinated and had commendation packages sent to every Post in Wisconsin. This included an US Army Lapel Pine, Army Decal, Certificate of Appreciation and thanks signed by the Chief of Staff and Secretary of the Army for active duty, retirees, veterans, parents, spouses and employers. Every time you see an Army sticker in Wisconsin you can think of Kieth.

Kieth also was Service Officer for the VFW Post 7898 for 15 years. Where he was awarded a state award for all his hard work in 2013 & 2015 with a national award in 2012.

Kieth was always handing out Federal benefit books to Veterans and helping them review the information so they could receive what they qualified for to the fullest potential. One of his favorite meeting places was the Hazelhurst Pub which he referred to as his office.

Kieth had so many accomplishments in his life and did so much helping others that his presence on Earth will be truly missed direly. However, he’s back with his wife to enjoy his final retirement.

Kieth is survived by his son Vaughn Bullion of Hazelhurst, WI and daughter Crystal (Sean) Strosahl of Oshkosh, WI and by 3 grandchildren Sawyer, Aubrey and Joslynn and by his brother Eric (Bonnie) Bullion of Winchester and his sister Gale (Tim) Nickels of Winchester and numerous other dear family members.
