Lance B. Bishop

October 24, 1947 — November 18, 2020

Lance B. Bishop, 73, died peacefully in his sleep at his home on November 18, 2020. He was born to Louise (Smith) and Milton Bishop on October 24, 1947 in Tomahawk WI. He graduated from Lakeland Union High School in 1965. Lance went to the Naval Station Great Lakes training base in 1966 for basic training and hospital corps school. He worked at the United States medical dispensary in Norfolk VA as a flag administrator and a unit commander in the Atlantic fleet. Lance later received training in amphibious warfare and underwater demolition at the Naval Amphibious Station at Little Creek VA. Lance worked as a ward corpsman and patient affairs clerk for the USS Repose, a hospital ship, during the Vietnam War. After he was honorably discharged, Lance returned home. He worked for several years as a groundskeeper/maintenance man at Rockwood Estates and also built docks for Aqualand Manufacturing. Lance also spent some time working in the maintenance department at Howard Young Medical Center in Minocqua.
Lance was an uncomplicated man who enjoyed delivering pizza for the Northern Way until he became maintenance man at Hiawatha trailer park. He enjoyed his work and meeting all the people who came to spend their summers at the park. Over the last several years, as his health deteriorated, Lance worked hard to remain actively engaged in life. He was never one to seek fame, fortune or power. He loved learning, good discussions and spending time with the little ones of friends whom he called his grandchildren . He had a dry sense of humor and wit and loved music. He had a phenomenal memory and could tell you story after story of childhood adventures filled with names and details about things that happened over the course of his time with family, friends and neighbors. His brain contained a huge wealth of knowledge that he was always eager to share. His relationship with God was of paramount importance to him and he actively worked to deepen his knowledge of what God wanted for him by studying the Bible. He worked hard to live this truth and interacted with others without judgment.
Lance is survived by his siblings Marilou (Floyd) Peterson ,Alma Center WI, Sue (Jo) Bishop-Yeske, Wisconsin Rapids WI, Sallie Bishop, Woodruff WI, and Kristy Bishop, Portland OR, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Charles (2010) and Patrick (2013).

Lance was a wonderfully strange and unique character that sprinkled our lives with spice that both exasperated and delighted us! We will miss him terribly!

Memorial Service for Lance will be held at a later date depending on Covid-19 pandemic.
