Mary Ann Thompson

September 12, 1931 — March 2, 2015

Mary Ann was taken from us by pancreatic cancer and its complications March 2, 2015, at Howard Young Hospital, Minocqua, at the age of 83.
She was born Sept. 12, 1931, to Julius L. Heimsoth and his wife, Laura (Kruse) of Arlington Heights, Ill.
She attended Saint Peter Lutheran School and graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1949. In 1947 she won the 21 Basketball Contest at Arlington High and in 1949 she placed in the A. J. B. C. bowling contest. The Class of ’49 referred to themselves as the “49ers.” They were a close-knit group and she made many friends among them and cherished their friendships through the years.
On April 28, 1956, she married William H. Thompson of Park Ridge, Ill., in Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church, Arlington Heights.
They raised a family of three children, Lorry (Rollie Carlson) of Austin, Texas, Mark of Algonquin, Ill., and Scott (Louise) of Streamwood, Ill. Their three children raised six grandchildren, Mackenzie and Avery (Lorry), Samantha and Alexandra (Mark), and Alanah and Logan (Scott).
Mary Ann’s great joy and most important thing in her life was her family. She loved them all and looked forward every year to their visits to our home in the Northwoods of Wisconsin.
She was a great cook and cookie-maker. Her Chex mix, made for Christmas time, was without comparison. We will all miss her wonderful mothering talents and culinary skills but most of all we will deeply miss her.
Nimsgern Funeral Services will provide a private cremation service. Mary Ann will be interred in the family plot in the Sugar Grove, Kane, Ill., cemetery with a family memorial service in the Spring.
