Mary Janet Bur

Mary J. Bur (Kennedy) of Boulder Junction, passed away Monday, January 19, 2015 at Howard Young Medical Center from a brief illness. She died peacefully in the presence of her family at the age of 83.
She was known as Mary Janet in Columbus, OH under the shadow of Ohio State University where both her parents, June F. Kennedy (Findley) and Clarence H. Kennedy taught. Instead of becoming a Buckeye she led herself to become a Spartan at Michigan State University. She graduated with a Home Economics Degree. She later met her husband of 58 years at the University of Michigan biological station. They later married in Ann Arbor. After a short stay in San Francisco, due to her husband being stationed by his service in the army, they moved to La Crosse WI. After 11 years they moved to Boulder Junction and have since made it their home in the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin. After having their sixth child she worked as a dietary aide at Howard Young for 18 years. She was an active and beloved member of St. Anne's church where she was president of the Christian Women’s Society for many years. She stayed active by continuing to count the collections money for St. Anne's. Mary did what she loved till the very end which included tending her garden, making quilts for her 15 grandkids, baking desserts, and chocolate. She will be missed by the many people who enjoyed her zest for life.
Mary is survived by her husband, Donald Bur and her 6 children, Mike Bur of Cleveland OH, Steve (Mary) Bur of Plymouth MN, Dave (Lorrie) Bur of Eau Claire WI, Dan (Luzia) Bur of Eagan MN, Ann Markuson (Bruce) of Glendale WI and Kathryn White (Ed) of Early TX, her grandchildren Colleen Bur, Julianne Bur, Laurel Bur, Travis Bur, Alicia Bur, Lydia Bur, Mitchell Bur, Megan Bur, Natalie Bur, April Bur, Matthew Markuson, Michelle Markuson, Amanda White, Elizabeth White, JD White, her niece Melita Kennedy (Colin Childs), grand nephews, Caelin and Simon, her cousin Angelica Brennan (Dr. Robert Brennan) and their two sons, Dr. Cameron Brennan, Todd Brennan and their families. She was preceded in death by her brother Bruce H. Kennedy.
Visitation will be on Saturday, January 24th at St Anne's Catholic Church which will start at 11am, followed by a funeral Mass at noon. A luncheon reception will follow. The family would like to send a special thank you to the exceptionally caring staff of the ICU unit at Howard Young for their dedication and compassion.
