Monica Mae Stern

July 16, 1951 — March 2, 2019

Monica Mae Stern "Monique, Momica" 67, born to Victor and Elly (Haugen) Jones in Hartland, WI on July 16, 1951 passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday March, 2nd 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Monica spent the majority of her childhood in the good old north woods where her parents owned and ran a resort in Manitowish Waters called Jones Pine Acres.

She attended the 2 room school house in Manitowish Waters for 6,7, and 8th grades. She then attended and graduated from Lakeland Union High School. Went on to college and decided on a degree of Registered Nurse.

She started at Howard Young Medical Center as an aide and when she finished school she worked as a nurse. She moved into the Operating Room as a circulating nurse and eventually became the department supervisor. She had a very interesting and great career there for 40 years.

Throughout her childhood and into adult hood she loved to ski (water and snow) was part of skiing clubs both for recreation and for competition. She won numerous awards at both. As she got older and in high school she met the love of her life Patrick Stern. They were junior prom King and Queen and never separated from there. Together they did a lot with family as in bowling leagues, fishing trips playing cards and working at the mill.

As her fantastic life went on she was blessed with 2 daughters Trisha (Randy) Bise of Mosinee, and Tiffany Stern (Donald Waterman) of Woodruff. She was a great and proud mom and was always there catering to her children for all their needs. She became a Grandma to Alexis and Bianca Stern and that was her favorite thing in the entire world. She was so happy to be at a place in her life where she literally got to spend almost every single day with them and it gave her nothing but joy!!! Whether they were traveling to Florida or just chilling at home. Out at the lake or in town she could normally be found doing something with them.

She got diagnosed with terminal Cancer in 2014 and was so strong fighting everyday to spend more time with family and friends. She always said she had no problem fighting when she was winning and still got to enjoy the experiences and day to day living like everyone else.

She is preceded in death by the love of her life and husband Patrick Stern, her parents Victor (Elly) Jones, sister Sandy Zenisek, brother in law John Zenisek, niece Tina Vermeeren, mother and father in law Ollie and Bonnie Stern, Sister in Law Bonnie Faye Stern, and paternal and maternal grandparents.

She is survived by daughters Trisha (Randy) Bise, Tiffany Stern (Donald Waterman), grandchildren Alexis and Bianca Stern. Brother Ron (Kay) Jones. Brother and Sister in laws Frank (Deb) Stern, Dennis (Sandy) Stern, Gilbert (Sheila) Kettner. Nieces and nephews Kurt (Angela) Kettner, Chris Kettner, Kerry (Mike) Raub, Keith Stern, Edward Zenisek, Jamie (Vince) Gregosanc, with a many more extended family as well.
