Ralph W. Hanson, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2019. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Janice, sons Craig (Nancy) and Jim, Grandchildren Jesse, and Danielle (Hans Peterson), Great Grandchildren Noah Peterson, and Memphis Hanson. He is also survived by brothers Bill (Jean) and John. He was preceded in death by his parents, Palmer and Mildred (nee Bielke) Hanson, and sister Elaine Duchac.
Ralph a lifelong resident of Manitowish Waters attended the Manitowish Waters Grade School, Wausau High School, and Northland College. In 1952, he enlisted in the Navy and served honorably for 4 years. After he was discharged he returned to Manitowish Waters and joined the family business, Hanson's Hardware. He spent the next 42 years in the business and retired in 1998.
Throughout his life Ralph was active in community affairs. He was a charter member of the Manitowish Waters Lions Club. He was a founding member of the Manitowish Waters Sno Skeeters Snowmobile Club, and a member of the Mercer Masonic Lodge. This past January the Club honored him as the original and long time Trail Boss by naming the trails in Manitowish Waters in honor of him.
A memorial gathering will be held at Nimsgern Funeral Home Chapel in Woodruff on Saturday, May 18th starting at 10:00 am to 11:00 am followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am, with a reception to follow at the Rustic Road House in Manitowish Waters.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Manitowish Waters Sno Skeeters Snowmobile Club, The Manitowish Waters Fire Company, or the Koller Library.
