Robert J. White

June 12, 1927 — August 17, 2014

Robert J. White died and went to be with the Lord Jesus on August 17, 2014 in Woodruff, WI at 87 years of age. Robert, known as “Bob”, was born on June 12, 1927 in Hinsdale, Illinois to Clifford and Myrna White. He grew up in Western Springs, Illinois along with his sister Eleanore. From the time he was one until the year he died, Bob spent several months on Blue Lake in Minocqua, Wisconsin each year. Bob attended Wheaton College graduating in 1951 with a degree in Spanish, later receiving a graduate degree in Counseling. Bob first worked for Victor Chemical for 7 years and then spent 37 years in the education field. For 10 years he taught 6th grade, and the following 27 years he was a counselor at Indian Trail Junior High in Addison. At age 39 on June 11, 1966, Bob married Grace Charlotte Johnson, the daughter of a missionary. They lived in Wheaton and were married for 33 years until her death in 1999. He is survived by 3 children, Martha Laks, Manya Gyuro, and Mark White, their spouses, and 10 grandchildren. Anyone who knew Bob knew of his great interest in steam locomotives, music and the arts, his black Studebaker convertible, water skiing, and especially his deep care and compassion for others. At age 59, he rededicated his life to Jesus after 20 years of being an agnostic. The changes that occurred in Bob’s life after this point were very prominent. His worship of the Lord and prayer for those he cared so deeply about marked the latter part of his life. Interment will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Wheaton Cemetery, 1209 S. Warrenville Road, Wheaton, IL 60187.
