Obituary for Robert James Kidd

Robert “Bob” Kidd 79, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, January 17, 2013 at his home. Bob was born February 11, 1933 in Escanaba, Michigan to the late Armon and Irene Kidd. In 1949, at the age of sixteen, Bob joined the Navy. He was proud to serve during the Korean War on the U.S.S. Toledo. Bob loved to tell stories of his Korean War days and always wore his favorite jacket and hat on Veteran’s Day. Bob was a member of the Lakeland VFW Post 7898. Upon leaving the Navy, Bob went to work for the Chicago and North Western Railway in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Bob married Helen Pirkov in New Holstein, Wisconsin on April 14, 1956, and they had four children. In 1973, the family moved to Arbor Vitae. On February 19, 1983, Bob married Joanne “Joni” (Clowry) Davis in Green Bay. They moved to Lily, Wisconsin. Bob stayed with the railway until he retired. He had over 35 years of service in with the railroad at the time of his retirement. Bob and Joni later moved to the Minocqua area and eventually found their dream location on a little lake in Arbor Vitae. Bob loved to fish…..he especially enjoyed ice fishing. Many stories can be told of his fishing adventures. People who knew Bob were probably on the receiving end of a “tale or two” at some point in their lives. He enjoyed talking about the days in his past, whether they were during his Navy years, railroad career, family time or fishing. More often than not, Bob could bring people to tears from laughing at his funny stories. Bob is survived by his wife, Joni; his daughter, Debra Kidd of Mableton, GA, his son, Jay (Deanne) Kidd of Arbor Vitae, his son, Todd (Cheri) Kidd of Hazelhurst and his daughter, Sandra Kidd of Spring, TX; grandchildren, Jordan Stevenson, Jessie Stevenson, Jason Kidd, Shane Kidd, Ashley Kidd, Joshua Escalante, Sierra Escalante and Alexis (Tyler) Fain; great grandchild, Deegan Fain and his beloved dog, “Sam.” Bob is also survived by step-children, Joe (Vicki) Davis, Jim (Francine) Davis, Dan (Jeanne) Davis, Tony (Lola) Davis and Fred (Debbie) Phelps, all of Green Bay; many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
