In 1949, at the age of sixteen, Bob joined the Navy. He was proud to serve during the Korean War on the U.S.S. Toledo. Bob loved to tell stories of his Korean War days and always wore his favorite jacket and hat on Veteran’s Day. Bob was a member of the Lakeland VFW Post 7898. He had over 35 years of service in with the railroad at the time of his retirement. Bob and Joni later moved to the Minocqua area and eventually found their dream location on a little lake in Arbor Vitae. Bob loved to fish…..he especially enjoyed ice fishing. Many stories can be told of his fishing adventures. People who knew Bob were probably on the receiving end of a “tale or two” at some point in their lives. He enjoyed talking about the days in his past, whether they were during his Navy years, railroad career, family time or fishing. More often than not, Bob could bring people to tears from laughing at his funny stories.
