Ruth N Williams

Ruth Johanna Neumann Williams, 94, of Woodruff, WI passed to eternal life on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Avanti Health and Rehab. Ruth was born on June 18, 1918 in Detroit, MI to Karl (Charles) and Maryanna (Kuntz) Neumann. She was the youngest of eight children: Rosamund, Olga, Lydia, Wanda, Edward, Edna, and Walter; all preceded her in death. On May 20, 1939 Ruth married her high school sweetheart, Carl Archie Williams, at St. Peters Lutheran Church in East Detroit, MI. They had two daughters, Lynn Ruth in 1942 and Gail Mary in 1946. Ruth was a homemaker when her children were young and later worked for the State of Michigan Public Schools administration system. She retired in 1976. Ruth and Carl were a fun-loving couple. They enjoyed entertaining and spending time with family and many close friends at their Atlanta, MI cabin and their winter home in North Port, FL. Ruth was a talented crafter who sewed, crocheted beautiful afghans, and made pine needle baskets. She liked doing crosswords and playing cards. Ruth was preceded in death by her daughter, Gail Gamez on Sept. 4, 1990, her husband, Carl on July 1, 1994, and her daughter, Lynn Barrigar on May 13, 2011; also by her beloved nieces, Marge Feihn and Janet Haley. Ruth is survived by her son-in-law, Robert D. Barrigar (Mary Ann) of Downers Grove, IL and her four grandchildren, Sheri L. Jensen (Jack) of Woodruff, WI, Dale W. Barrigar (Jeanie) of Berwyn, IL, Michelle L. James of Woodruff, WI, and Derek S. Barrigar of Chicago, IL. She is also survived by her five darling great-grandchildren, Samantha Jensen, Logan James, Riley James, Tressa Barrigar, and Elena Barrigar. A Memorial Service and interment will take place in the spring at St. Peters Lutheran Church and cemetery in Eastpointe, MI. Please join us in celebrating Ruth’s life Saturday, January 19 from 4-7 pm at The Northern Way (Lola’s) in Arbor Vitae. In lieu of flowers please donate to The American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org/donate) or The Bluefield Project (www.bluefieldproject.org/donate) in honor of Ruth’s daughters.
