Obituary for Sally L. Thompson

Sally “Sal” L. Thompson, 69, of Harshaw, WI passed away on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013 after a valiant battle with cancer. She was born on Feb. 19, 1944 in Waukesha, WI, the daughter of Fran (Hooseman) and John Maule. Sally graduated from Waukesha South High school in 1962 and went on to attend the Milwaukee School of Beauty and Cosmetology. She held various jobs throughout her life including working as a beautician, doing clerical work, and working as a Swing Manager at McDonalds in Sussex. She was involved in the Job’s Daughters organization throughout her early years. After moving to the Northwoods, Sally donated her free time delivering Meals on Wheels, something she greatly enjoyed. One of her greatest passions was spending time with and doting on her grandchildren. Most recently, she found joy in sharing pictures of her new great-grandson. An avid bird watcher, she loved the wildlife that surrounded her home, keeping her birdfeeders filled, and was known to chase the away the occasional bear who tried to snack from the feeder. Towards the end of her illness she found enjoyment from the sight-seeing car rides taken in search of deer and other animals. Sally is survived by her companion Don Stadler; her children Michele (Neil) Burns of Theresa, WI, Jeffrey (Kristina) Thompson of Sussex, WI and David (Tracy) Thompson of Waukesha, WI; her grandchildren Matthew (Katie) Burns, Elizabeth Burns, Emily Burns, Gabrielle Burns, Austin Thompson, Dylan Thompson, Samuel Thompson, Caroline Thompson and Natalie Thompson; her step-grandchildren Gina (Ted) Hickey-Liskowtiz, Tasha (Dan) Greene and Joshua Hintz; her great-grandson Christopher Burns and her step-great-grandchildren Kaylee, Madison and Alicia Liskowtiz and Dakota Greene. She is survived by her brothers David (Marcia) Maule, Robert (Dorothy) Maule, Thomas (Claudia) Maule and William (Katherine) Maule and one sister-in-law, Mary Maule. She is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Sally was preceded in death by her father, mother, step-father Edwin Gramling and her brother Gerald Maule. There will be two celebrations of life in Sally’s honor. On Saturday November 9, 2013, a celebration will be held at Birch Lake Bar and Resort in Harshaw, WI beginning at 12 p.m. A second memorial celebration will be held for Sally on Saturday December 7, 2013 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge located on Main St. in Dousman, WI. The family would like to thank Jo, Angie, Lorna, Sharon and the entire team from Ministry Hospice & Home Care for taking such excellent care of Sally. In lieu of flowers, memorials made to the Ministry Hospice Program or the family would be appreciated. Nimsgern Funeral Home is serving the family.
