Arlyn R. Brousil

October 27, 1944 — October 16, 2021

"On the clear, bright night of Saturday, October 16th, 2021, Arlyn Rae (Beach) Brousil, followed the bright moon to heaven. Joining her parents, Ida and Harvey Beach, sister Eunice and brother Fred.

The youngest of 4 children, Arlyn was born in Bessemer, MI Oct. 27, 1944. She grew up in Mercer, WI and graduated from Mercer K-12 school. She graduated from The Green Bay School of Cosmetology spring of 1964. June of 1964, she met Ken Brousil of Presque Isle, WI thru her sister Eunice. From that point on, Ken and Arlyn were pretty much inseparable. Engaged in October, and married on Dec. 26, 1964. They moved to Milwaukee, WI for Ken's new job at Allis Chalmers.

While living in Milwaukee, they welcomed children, Becky, Patty and Kevin. Spring of 1972, Ken and Arlyn moved the family back up to Presque Isle, WI to take over Ken's family's resort. While raising their family in the northwoods, they were also involved in several organizations such as the volunteer fire department, Presque Isle Chamber of Commerce and were part of the founding members of the Presque Isle SnowBunnies Snowmobile Club. She also served as a Girl Scout leader for several years at North Lakeland Grade School. In 1976 the resort was subdivided and Ken and Arlyn started Kenlyn Construction and a men's clothing store in one of the old Mill Pond Shops on Main St. in Presque Isle.

October of 1978, they packed up the family and Inky, the family black lab, and headed out to Fort Collins, CO. to join Arlyn's sisters and families who had been living there for several years. There she enjoyed working in retail, weekly cribbage tournaments with Ken at a local establishment and raising their children. Their home became the neighborhood hang out. On the weekends, they never knew who'd they'd be waking up to sleeping in the living room from the kid's friends. Snacks and coloring book parties for kids of all ages at the kitchen table to hanging out at the swimming pool. There were always "extra kids" at the Brousil house! They also enjoyed concerts, many family gatherings and trips up in the Rocky Mountains.

Becky and Kevin moved back to northern Wisconsin in 1985, soon followed by Ken, Arlyn, Inky, and eventually. Patty. The family members bounced around the northwoods from Presque Isle, to Menomonie, WI, to Stillwater, MN and GreenBay, WI. Becky moved back to the family homestead in Presque Isle permanently in 1987, Arlyn soon followed.

In 1988 Presque Isle became the permanent home for Arlyn and Ken. Arlyn was a very friendly "people person' and enjoyed the food services industry. Over the years she waitressed at The Mill Pond Cafe, Zastrow's Lynx Lake Lodge, Skyview Lodge and The PI Pub, all in Presque Isle, WI. She was the first Subway Manager in Minocqua, She worked several years at the Eagles Nest, Lake of the Torches Casino in Lac du Flambeau, WI . Even after she retired, if she was a customer at Skyview, The Pub or Gooch's, you'd see her jumping in to help out if they became super busy.

Arlyn was very well known for her love of wildlife and the many stories she told of feeding her critters on the front deck. All her furry friends had names and were well taken care of whether they had wings or paws. Arlyn had a very generous spirit with her human friends as well, making sure nobody went hungry. Sharing her homemade soups, jams and baked goodies with everyone, and everyone loved them! It wasn't uncommon for her to barter local fishermen, for her favorite bass fish. They also had a fondness for labradors. After retiring from years of raising their own, they'd often babysit friends' labs as well.

Where you saw Ken, you saw Arlyn! Constant companions and devoted sweethearts for almost 57 years. Whether it be helping out Ken with the various Lion's Clubs functions, golfing outings or just whipping him in endless games of cribbage (and a few accusations of him cheating when he would actually win! ;-) ) Whether it be monitoring the Crab Lake boat landing, where she never forgot treats for the fisherman's 4 legged friends or the 30 years of the Trout Lake Chapter Committee Member of Ducks Unlimited, you always saw them together

Wherever she went, no matter who you were, you were never a stranger to Arlyn. She always had a purse full of photos of her kids, grandbabies and critters to share her overwhelming pride of them all!. No one was immune to her sassy "Arlynisms".... "Left handed people are in their right mind!". "I'd slap you, but $#*! splatters!" and lets not forget the one she's BEST known for... "GO TO YOUR ROOM!" :-)

Yes, Mom was DEFINITELY, one of a kind! The kind you won't forget. The kind you'll miss terribly forever. The kind that leaves a hole in your heart when she's gone. The kind who instantly meant something to you the moment you met her. The kind you just fell in love with. The kind we all wish this world was filled with. The kind EVERYONE cherished! The kind who everyone called her "MA"!
