Clarence “Tuffy” Marheine, 90, of Rhinelander, WI passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at his home surrounded by loved ones. Clarence was born May 20, 1935 in Brantwood, WI, the son of Benjamin and Lillian (Hendrickson) Marheine. He was united in marriage on May 23, 1959 to Shirley Kaihlanen and she preceded him in death on January 11, 2017.
Tuffy earned his lifelong nickname at birth. He was born in the same home in Brantwood Wisconsin that he grew up in. When the doctor told his mom that “it was a boy,” he added that he was a real “toughie”. Tuffy lived up to his nickname in the physical sense but those who were close to him knew his soft side. Tuffy was close to his Saviour and often commented that his greatest wish would be for all his family to join him in heaven one day. Tuffy had a deep love of the outdoors and animals. He had capacious knowledge of animals of the field and farm. Tuffy enjoyed hunting, fishing, and keeping animals. He was gregarious in nature and loved to visit with members of the community. Tuffy was particularly fond of the senior citizens and was quick to come to their aid. He will be missed by friends and family but was ready to go to the arms of Jesus.
Surviving Tuffy are his daughters, Rebecca Marheine; Angela (Eric) Carlson; sons, Joel Marheine; Corey (Heather) Marheine; Colin Marheine; grandchildren, Kylee, Kirsten, Laurel, Nils, Cole, Montana, Drew, Brett, and Hailey; great-grandchildren, Malachy, Finley, Crosby, Harvey, Tierney, and Oscar; sisters, Nancy (Otto) Vyskocil; Judy (Donald) Morin; sister-in-law, Ann Marheine; brother, Dennis (Sue) Marheine.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kathleen (Joseph) Conlan; brothers, Benjamin and James; and a nephew, Jesse Marheine.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Our Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tomahawk, with Pastor Karl Schultz officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to time of service.
