David Scott Moran

David “Dave” Scott Moran passed away at his home on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at the age of 59. Dave was born on March 5, 1965 in Ottawa Illinois to Jim and Nancy (Price) Moran. Dave met the love of his life, Kelley June Ferguson, in kindergarten but did not officially start to date until their high school years.

Dave and Kelley were married on August 23, 2003, at their lake home. Kelley survives and is comforted by their trio of dogs, Bella, Pepper, and Milo. Dave enjoyed wood working, was a lover of the outdoors and had a soft spot for rescued animals.

 Dave is survived by his parents Jim and Nancy and in-laws Bill and Judy Ferguson. He is also survived by his sister, Deeanne Vera, brother Ron Moran, brother in-law Chris (Alansa) Ferguson, nephews Evan Vera, Cole Moran, Andrew Ferguson and one niece Kathryn Ferguson. Dave was preceded by his brother Rob Moran.

 Dave was a stand-out basketball player at Ottawa Township High School. Dave was instrumental in leading the Pirates to the Super Sectionals in 1983 and still holds the OTHS record for the highest points in a single game. Dave continued his basketball career as a starting player at Illinois Valley Community College and University of Southern Indiana. In addition to basketball, he was an outstanding academic student and loved all things Science, with an emphasis on Earth and Space science.

 Dave was a teacher at Lakeland Union High School for over 20 years. Dave was involved in many school activities including coaching Freshman Boys Basketball, Science Olympiad, Ice Fishing Team, and Trap Team.

 A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Nimsgern Funeral & Cremation Services from 4:00pm until 7:00pm. The family requests any donations made in Dave’s honor be to an Animal Shelter of their choice.
