Dr. Donald B. Kiey, Sr.

May 10, 1929 — July 24, 2023

Wausau

Dr. Donald B. Kiey Sr., age 94 passed away on July 24, 2023 at Country Terrace in Minocqua.  He was born on May 10th, 1929.

Lived in Wausau for over sixty-five years and had practice dentistry there. He spent his last few months in the Minocqua area with his wife Charlotte and son Don Jr and his family.

Don volunteered at a young age for the Marine Corp’s Sea Duty taking him to 21 Foreign Counties. While on the Marine Corps track team he competed against major universities.

During the Korean War, Don became a machine gun platoon Sgt. and was honorably discharged as a S/Sgt.

One week after discharged he enrolled in the University of Wisconsin taking 21 credits a semester and in two years was admitted to the Marquette School of Dentistry. [normally it takes four years]

Don was a member of the Wausau Country Club for over thirty years. A member of the Elks Club where he bowled for Wausau Insurance, a 48-year member of the American Legion #10, a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner, past President of the Golden K (Kiwanis) and the past President of the Marathon County Dental Society.

For many years he and his buddies would go to Canada for a week in the spring and fall.  In 1976 while camped in the wilderness along the shores of Lake Disraeli, Don watched as a U.F.O. landed 40 yards from him. Immediately upon landing he was frozen in place for 4 ½ hours. His eyes slowly opened as he watched the U.F.O. silently to the tree top level and disappeared. Wibb and Dennis Lowrey had left a half hour earlier at 5:30 and had been followed by the U.F.O. for over four miles.

For over twenty years Don and his friend Mike had season tickets for the Packers and never missed a game including the Ice Bowl.

On Don’s very first cast on the Wisconsin River he caught a 50-inch, 34-pound Muskie. On his last cast in his late eight’s he caught a 33inch, 12 ½ pound walleye. Through the many years living on the river all trophy fish were released except two 50” muskies.

His pride and joy were his beautiful flower gardens and immaculate lawn, best of all where his many furry and feathered friends who he fed and watered daily.

Don is survived by his wife Charlotte of 72 years and his three children Debra Ewing, Donald (Karen) Kiey Jr and Linda Kiey. Three grandchildren Don III, Jirad and Tanner Kiey. His sister Audrey (Warren) Pope

Sister Mary Welch proceeded Don in death.
