Elisabeth Farber Lanzl passed away August 13, 2025, at the age of 101. She was living with her daughter in Minocqua. Elisabeth was born in Heidelberg, Germany in 1924; her family fled Nazi Germany in 1938. She attended high school in New Haven Connecticut, college at Radcliffe in Cambridge Massachusetts, and earned a master’s degree in physics at the University of Illinois. She met her husband, Lawrence Lanzl, also in the physics graduate program at the University of Illinois. The couple moved to Chicago area where Lawrence Lanzl was a professor in medical physics at the University of Chicago. Elisabeth taught high school German briefly, she translated some medical texts from German to English and worked for several years editing medical publications at the University of Chicago. Elisabeth enjoyed knitting and watching MSNBC. She is survived by her two children Eric Lanzl, (spouse Edith Finsaadal) of Woodstock, IL, Barbara Beutler of Minocqua, WI, 3 grandchildren Daniel Beutler, Elliot Beutler, Jonathan Beutler and great granddaughter Noa Beutler. Elisabeth would have liked, in lieu of flowers, to have donations made to Doctors without Borders.
