COMMUNITY NOTICE: Celebration of Life for George Callos Sr.

MINOCQUA, WI — The Callos family invites friends, neighbors, summer residents, and longtime patrons to a Celebration of Lifehonoring George Callos Sr., the beloved patriarch, owner, and chef of Minocqua’s historic Island Cafe.

George dedicated decades of his life to serving the Northwoods community from behind the counter, turning a local diner into a generations-wide gathering place filled with warm hospitality, continuous conversation, and Greek-American comfort food.

To honor his incredible 56-year legacy, the community is invited to gather where he loved to be most to share a story, a laugh, and a final cup of coffee.

When: Saturday, August 29th | 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Where: The Island Cafe Patio, 314 Oneida Street, Minocqua, WI

Details: A casual open-house style gathering with bottomless coffee and favorite cafe treats.

Family tributes and a community-wide toast to George will take place at 3:30 PM.

In honor of George’s welcoming spirit, attendees are encouraged to bring a favorite photo or written memory of their times at the cafe to pin to a community memory wall. Casual diner attire is welcome.
