Janet Marie Faulkner Jubert, age 81 of Arbor Vitae, WI passed away on Thursday, August 21st at her home. She was married to Ralph A. Jubert on April 4, 1964 at Our Lady Queen of the Universe Catholic Church in Woodruff. They enjoyed 52 wonderful years of marriage before Ralph was taken home on September 29, 2016.
Growing up she worked at the A&W Root Beer stand, Northland Gardens, Faulkner’s Texaco Gas Station, Paul Bunyan’s and Van’s Bakery.
She attended Arbor Vitae Woodruff Grade School and then went on to Lakeland Union High School. She went to Taylor County Teachers College in Medford, Wisconsin and got her Bachelor’s degree at Stevens Point. She got her Masters at the University of Superior and did post graduate work in Elementary Administration and Supervision. She did her Practice Teaching at Lac du Flambeau Grade School and taught her first year at Newbold Elementary School. The following year she returned to Lac du Flambeau and spent the next 46 years there in various capacities.
She was instrumental in implanting the Abacus, report based standards, Program, E.D. Hirsch’s CORE Knowledge Program, Early Childhood Follow-Through Program, and starting a 4-K Early Kindergarten Program. She worked with many groups on curriculum, standard based assessments, behavior modification programs, character development, and cultural curriculum. She, along with her husband, worked with the Lac du Flambeau Summer School Program for many years.
They also worked with Girl Scouts in Lac du Flambeau for 35 years ending with 117 girls in 5 troops, Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cadets, and Seniors. They did regional trainings and at Camp Birch Trails in Merrill and conducted a Girl Scout Day Camp in the area for four years. They helped 17 girls earn enough money to go to Disney World, camping at Fort Wilderness and all the way down and back. Two years later 14 girls had earned enough money to go to the Girl Scout World Center in Cuernavaca, Mexico.
After retiring, she and her husband taught Religious Classes at Holy Family and initiated the new faith formation program, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. They worked very hard to establish a catechesis atrium at Holy Family.
Other than her interest in children, teaching and Girl Scouts, she enjoyed being a Secular Franciscan, doing ceramics, sewing, baking, writing icons, and making materials and giving educational and religious presentations and programs, and writing curriculum for the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Program.
She and her husband had no children of their own but had “many, many children” in many places over the years. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Corrine and Robert Faulkner, and her two younger brothers, Robert and William Faulkner and her brother-in-law, Carl Vaughn.
She is survived by her sisters, Nancy Vaughn and Karen (Dick) Rocque and sister-in-law Renee Faulkner; along with many nieces and nephews: Richard (Thuy) Rocque, Robert (Maria) Rocque, Renee (Jerry) Griep and children; Brandon, Shannon, Kelsey and Colleen Griep; Stacy (Matt) Hollenberger and children; Jennifer, Jessica, and Rachel; Lisa (Ross) Frish and children; David Van de Loo and Sara Strutz; Terry Rocque and her children and grandchildren; Toni Marie Reyes and children Kayden, Natalia, and Cameron; Owen Graveen and children Leticya, Evan and Isaiah; Samantha Wilson and children Kalissa and Conner.
