Harrison

On July 9, 2026, our family lost a constant source of love and faith. Jean Loretta Van Strydonk passed away with family by her side at Rennes Health and Rehab Center in Rhinelander, WI.

Jean was born on September 23, 1934, to Laurence and Cecelia (Zuiker) Schoone in Tomahawk, WI. On July 9, 1955, she married the love of her life, Ervin Van Strydonk and together they raised eight children on their farm in Harrison, WI.

Jean was a woman of incredible faith whose greatest joy was her family. She spent her life making sure those around felt loved, cared for, and well fed. Whether she was baking raisin bread, playing cards and bingo, or serving her church, she made everyone feel like they were family.

In 1969, Jean and Erv began a new adventure together by opening a sports/recreational business, Erv’s Sales & Service. Customers quickly came to know that when they stopped by, they could count on finding Jean there. She was the heart and foundation of the family run business, welcoming all with warmth, kindness, and a genuine interest in assisting customers with their needs, building countless friendships in her 40+ years of working there.

Jean is survived by her children, Mary (Bob) Smith, Jo (Larry) Lemmens, Kathy (Mark) Voermans, Jim (Carol) Van Strydonk, Mark Van Strydonk, Larry (Linda) Van Strydonk, Alan (Stephanie) Van Strydonk and Nancy Swan. She is further survived by her siblings Mary (Jack) Van Ryen, Cecelia (Ted) Rudolph, Corinne Swan, Jerome Schoone, Jake (Jackie) Schoone, Laurence (Ruby) Schoone, and her sister-in-law Delores DuPlayee. Jean is further survived by her 15 grandchildren Kyle, Sadie, Valerie, Derek, Nathan, Heidi, Mitch, Cole, Beau, Erin, Jordyn, Nicholas, Troy, Sarah and Craig. She is also survived by 32 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Erv, father & mother Laurence & Cecelia Schoone, father-in-law & mother-in-law Alphonse & Eleanor Van Strydonk, son-in-law Mike Swan, brothers – Fr. Raymond Schoone, Peter Schoone and sisters – Whil Amelse, Annette Daigle-Stewart, and many nieces & nephews.

Words cannot express the heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Rennes Health and Rehab in Rhinelander for all the care, kindness and love shown to mom during her time there. Your willingness to go above and beyond to care for her is truly inspiring.
