Joanne Beverly Morrill, 92, passed away on February 22, 2025, in Spooner, Wisconsin.
Joanne was born on July 15, 1932, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Lawrence Gaartz and Eleanor Jones of White Bear, Minnesota. She lived in many places in her early years as her father traveled for various government assignments. Some of these places included: Hays Springs, Montana, Pierre, South Dakota, Hamilton, Montana, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Rochester, New York.
Joanne graduated from Oneida County Elementary School on May 29, 1947, and Minocqua High School on May 24, 1951. In college she was a member of Theta Sigma Upsilon at Wisconsin State College Whitewater and graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Education (Academic), January 30, 1959. She received her license from the State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction to teach English, History and Art, on July 1, 1961.
Joanne married Arnold Walter Morrill on December 14, 1963, in Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin. They settled and remained on Squirrel Lake in Minocqua for decades where they raised their family. Joanne had many interests and hobbies including gardening, canning, macramé, and doll repair. Over the years she maintained a couple of “craft-focused” businesses; JoElle’s Candles out of her home in Minocqua, Wisconsin, and the Hobby Hutch for a time in downtown Minocqua, Wisconsin. She was also an active volunteer for several organizations including the VFW women’s auxiliary, election board, and fire department women’s auxiliary.
Joanne was known to everyone as selfless, hard-working, and doing all she could to support others, not only her family, but her community as well. The word “I” didn’t have a place in her vocabulary, and she gave freely of her time and talents. She enjoyed acts of kindness and helping other people, peace and harmony were always a primary goal. Joanne was also a foster parent and created lasting relationships with the children she cared for.
Joanne was predeceased by her husband, Arnold Walter Morrill, who passed away on January 1, 2002. Survivors include one sister Patricia (Arthur) Ryall of Rice Lake, Wisconsin, son Clinton (Chelon) Morrill of Woodbury, Minnesota; daughter Lynelle John of Keshena, Wisconsin, and daughter Laurel Morrill of Harshaw, Wisconsin, granddaughters Abby Morrill and Haley Morrill, granddaughter Miranda (John) Wright, grandson Dominick Reyes, grandson Brendan (Julia Karagich) Reyes, grandson Grady Morrill, great grandson Thomas Wright, great granddaughter Athena Karagich-Reyes , great granddaughter Artemis Karagich-Reyes, great granddaughter Raquel Spears, and great grandson Samuel Reyes.
Joanne will be interned in the Evergreen Cemetery, Woodruff, Wisconsin, along with her husband, father, mother and other relatives. A graveside service is planned for Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 10:00 am. Please meet at Nimsgern Funeral home for the short trip to the gravesite.
