John Kelsey Bowman, 87, was born January 13, 1938, in Bandon, OR and died May 21, 2025, at the Aspirus Wausau Hospital after a short illness. He was a loving husband and father/stepfather and was loved so much by his family.
John graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in Engineering and worked for the Forest Service for 32 years, working in six different states throughout his career. He also worked five years for the city of Juneau, AK, before retiring and moving to Lake Nokomis, Tomahawk, WI, in 2006. While living there, he was the Chairman of the Town of Nokomis for eight years. He was an avid reader and loved working outside. He always fed the squirrels, chipmunks, and birds in his back yard and put on such a good spread, other animals heard of his buffet and soon every animal in the neighborhood would show up. His favorite time was when a Sandhill Crane spent most of the summer in his yard eating and sleeping in the sun.
John is survived by his wife of 36 years, Virginia (Ginger), two daughters, Jody Soper and Linn Hall (Charlie) Dehnel, both of Wausau, and a son Gary (Amy) of Lodi, WI. He is also survived by two step-daughters, Tammy (Jim) Javenkoski of Rhinelander, and Jennifer (Michael) Tapplin of St. Francis, MN, his kitties, Belle and Kelsey, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, a sister and brother, and his step-son.
