Kathryn J Nelson

Kathryn J. Nelson, age 77, a resident of Phillips, WI, passed away August 1, 2026, at Care View Health & Rehab in Minocqua, WI. She was born January 10, 1949, in Duluth, MN, to John and Margorie Mork. She attended Duluth Elementary School and graduated from Duluth Denfeld High School. She then attended the University of Wisconsin, Superior, and later, WITC, Superior. She worked at B & L Home improvement, Prentice IGA, and Johnson Hardware. She was involved with the American Legion Auxiliary, Phillips Health Alliance, Moose Lodge, Healthy Bodies, Strong Bodies, and Phillips Library Book Club. Kathryn loved reading and had quite the collection of books. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church for many years and most recently, became a member at Saint John Lutheran Church, Phillips.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband James Nelson and Donald Laine; parents John and Marjorie Mork; brother: Scott Mork; brother in laws: Ed Nelson, Bill Holton, Dan Nelson; sister-in-law: Pam Nelson. She is survived by her daughter: Christine (Bob) Horvatich; grandson: Wyatt Thompson; granddaughter: Maria Horvatich; 4 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Kathy Holton, Gina (Bob) Belshaw, Julie Nelson, Gretchen Nelson; brother-in-law: Steve (Kim) Nelson; she is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.

A memorial gathering will be held at St. John Lutheran Church from 9:30 am until the time of the service at 11:00 am on August 29, 2026. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be sent to Catkins Animal Rescue in Kathryn’s honor.
