Land O'Lakes

Lois Elaine Jung, 83, of Land O’ Lakes, Wisconsin passed away on Friday, August 4th, 2023 at Milestone Living Center in Woodruff, WI. She was born on July 26, 1940, in Milwaukee to Layton and Antoinette (Tonee) Larson.

Lois grew up in Woodruff and was a member of the first graduating class at Lakeland Union High School in 1958.  She studied teaching at the University of Wisconsin, Superior and began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in Stoughton.  She then moved back to the Northwoods and taught at Presque Isle, Boulder Junction, and North Lakeland.  She married Gilbert Jung on June 16, 1962, in Boulder JunctionTogether, they owned and operated Jung’s Resort on High Lake for nearly 60 years. She loved spending time with the resort guests, who often became friends, returning year after year.  Gil and Lois continued to live on High Lake during the summer months and run the resort property as condos, and spent many winters in Apache Junction, Arizona.

Lois was active in the community and her church.  As a member of the Community Church of Boulder Junction for over 60 years, she served on the church council, taught, and led the Sunday school program, led the youth group, and founded and led a fitness-based bible study.  Lois had a heart for those in need and helped start the food pantry at her church.  She and Gil were active members of the Boulder Junction Chamber of Commerce, helping promote and grow area tourism. Her passion for helping others led her to become a regional Weight Watchers leader for many years.

Lois was a caring mother and grandmother, compelling teacher, and friend to many.  She loved the outdoors and spending time on the lake fishing, swimming, and boating.  In the wintertime she loved to ski and venture out with her family on long treks in the Northwoods.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert; parents, Layton and Antoinette, and sisters LuEllen (Jerry) Bateman and Nona (Jack) Berray. She is survived by daughter Ann (Pete Koester), sons Peter (Debra), Paul (Kelly), and 10 grandchildren: John, Emily, Ross, Rachel, Gabriella, Madeline, Nicholas, Frances, Beatrice and Penelope. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews who she also loved dearly.

Sincere appreciation to Milestone Living Center and Aspirus Hospice Care for their compassionate and excellent care for Lois.
