Mark Taylor

Mark Taylor, age 70, formerly of Tomahawk, passed away on the morning of September 17, 2021 at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Mark was born on May 2, 1951 to Kenneth and Virginia Taylor in Waupaca, Wisconsin. He spent his grade school and high school years in Tomahawk, where the Boy Scouts and playing basketball were important parts of his life. During the summer, you could find him swimming in the river or on the lake water-skiing. Mark was the student body president of Tomahawk High School for three years, graduated as valedictorian, and was recently inducted into the Tomahawk High School Hall of Fame for his efforts in the 1968-69 men’s basketball championship run. He was also a distinguished scout leader, spending countless hours at Camp Tesomas and earning distinction as an Eagle Scout, Order of the Arrow Chief, and Explorer Scout Advisor. Mark attended college at the University of Wisconsin - Stout earning an undergraduate degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. He went on to earn a graduate degree in later years from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee in Vocational Rehabilitation. Mark’s professional career included stints as the Director of the Indian Health Board and a Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist in Milwaukee. In retirement, he continued to be a lifelong learner, participating in his church book club, writing short stories, and reading any book he could get his hands on. Mark is survived by his son – Gregory Taylor; daughter - Lauren Golias; and siblings - Paul, Pam, and Lynn. He is further survived by seven grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers - Brian and James. Mark will be buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Tomahawk. His family will celebrate his life with a Memorial Service at the cemetery on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 1:00 p.m., all are invited. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family asks that donations to the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Vernon County be made in Mark’s name (please send checks to Aging and Disability Resource Center, care of Tricia Clements, 402 Courthouse Square, Viroqua, WI 54665).
