Marvene was born on January 11, 1936, on the family farm in Spirit Township in Ogema, Wisconsin; the only daughter of Daniel and Matilda Nelson; she had two brothers, Loren and Paul. Paul preceded her in passing.
Kind and reserved by nature, she left the farm and graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Stout in Menomonie, majoring in Home Economics. She taught in Marshfield, Tripoli and Prentice; and was well liked and respected by all who knew her.
She married James Bruner in 1959, and they had three surviving children: Daniel James (Susan), Pocatello, ID, Deane Edward (Srey), Excelsior, MN, and Toni Lynne (Mark), Minneapolis, MN. An infant daughter, Sarah Lee, as well as a grandson, Noah Edward, son of Deane, preceded her in passing. Two grandchildren, Isabella Bruner, (Deane) and Finnegan Bender (Toni Lynne) survive.
Marvene and James spent about a year in Tacoma, Washington during the 1961 Berlin callup of the 32nd Division of the Wisconsin National Guard; a year of uncertainty as well as happiness for them.
Later, ten years were spent in Raleigh, North Carolina, where Toni Lynn was born on the fourth of July. Our southern firecracker!
In 1981 a dream home was constructed in Prentice to spend our lives, and where Marvene later passed away, of age and ill health, on September 20, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
While in Prentice there were travels to Europe, New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, Georgia and Florida; good times with friends!
Married 66 years. With no regrets, with the normal ups and downs of lives well lived; we were truly blessed. The dream home is now very quiet.... The family requests that any donations be directed to Hope Hospice. A memorial will be held at a later date.
