Roger H. Westphal

April 9, 1952 — March 24, 2024

Boulder Junction

Roger H. Westphal of Boulder Junction passed away March 24, 2024.   Born in Milwaukee, April 9, 1952, he was the son of Henry and Audrey (Schoenke) Westphal.

Roger was a graduate of John Marshall High School, Milwaukee, and a student at Milwaukee Area Technical College where he studied electronics and appliance repairs.  He moved to Boulder Junction with his mother and brother in 1974.

A trusted and valued caretaker and an “artist” with a snowplow, many Northwoods neighbors (especially on the “Point”) called on Roger for jobs, big and small.   He was always there to help in times of need or to chat about how things were going “up north”.

Roger enjoyed researching many topics, everything from grilling to world affairs.   He could easily carry on conversations with people from many walks of life.  Many people knew Roger as a long-time volunteer with the Lakeland Dog Training Center where he enjoyed giving individual attention to dogs and their owners when needed.  He also served as a decoy in Ring Sport activities.   With a great love of dogs, especially German Shepherds, he was often seen with his beloved dog, Rico, as he made his caretaking rounds or when cruising the lake on his pontoon boat.

Roger is survived by his brother, Mark (Tina) Westphal; nephews James (Jackie) and Timothy (Morgan) Westphal; grandnephew, Cameron and grandniece, Elise.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Roger’s name to Northwoods Animal Alliance, P.O. Box 382, Saint Germain, WI 54558.   A service is not planned at this time.   Online condolences may be shared at www.nimsgernfuneral.com.  Nimsgern Funeral & Cremation Services is serving the family.
