Sarah E. Pfarr
Sarah was the first child born to Thomas and Sherry Sarkkinen on April 19, 1980, in Tomahawk, Wisconsin. Sarah grew up in Brantwood and graduated from Prentice High School in 1998. Sarah went on to attend St. Norbert College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2002. She continued her education at University of Wisconsin–La Crosse and earned a Master of Science degree in December 2003. Sarah’s professional journey led her to what became her true passion, special education, working in the Tomahawk and Prentice school districts. In August 2025, Sarah received her Master of Science in Education from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point. She was a Special Education teacher at Prentice Middle School, where she was deeply loved by her students.
In the fall of 2005, Sarah’s brother Shane brought a co-worker and friend home for the weekend, and that’s when Sarah met David Pfarr. She had said, “I knew he was the one!” Sarah and David were married on April 26, 2008, in Tomahawk, Wisconsin, and later built a home together in Brantwood. The true loves of her life were her husband and best friend, David, and their beloved dogs.
Sarah volunteered at Catkins Animal Rescue Inc. in Price County. Sarah loved spending time outdoors—walking, cross-country skiing, traveling, and riding in the bear truck with her husband, David, and their dogs. Sarah was a respected and beloved girls’ volleyball coach for many years assisting at both Prentice and Tomahawk Middle Schools.
Sarah is preceded in death by her mother Sherry (Moore) Sarkkinen, grandparents Jerome and Luella Moore, Ronald and Deon Sarkkinen, and uncle Howard Moore.
Sarah is survived by her husband, David, and their beloved dogs, Bandit, Reggie, Riggs, Micky, Pepper, and Molly Moo. She is also survived by her father, Tom, and siblings Shane (Melissa) Sarkkinen and their boys Cyrus and Callan, Sasha (Justin) Frahm, and their children, Hadley, Sawyer, Harlow, Sutton and Vaughn, and Shawnie Sarkkinen. In-laws John and Cindy Pfarr, Chad (Megan) and their children, Emersen and Cormac.
The family would like to thank Megan Pfarr, Jess Heikkinen, Becky Heikkinen, and Kati Isaacson for their wonderful assistance and support to Sarah over the past seven weeks as she battled an aggressive form of cancer. The family would also like to extend gratitude to the many friends and family that helped care for David and Sarah’s dogs, dropped off food, and provided transportation to medical appointments.
There will be a Celebration of Life in honor of Sarah from 2:00pm–8:00pm on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Palmquist Farm in Brantwood, WI.
Those wishing to honor Sarah’s memory are invited to contribute to Catkins Animal Rescue of Price County or the Sarah Pfarr Educational Scholarship Fund.
