Walter Schmuhl, age 88 of Minocqua, WI passed away at his home with his daughter by his side on Friday, May 22, 2026. Walter was born June 28, 1937 in Milwaukee to the late John and Rose Schmuhl.
Walter spent his life as a government employee. He began by receiving a honorable discharge from the Air National Guard of Wisconsin. Then worked with the Panama Canal Zone Engineering and Construction B.F.D; Hoover Dam Engineering Department and then 26 years of service with U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and West Area Power Administration.
Walter was always tinkering on something, but whether he was a father or grandfather or a G G pa he would take us downhill skiing or cross country skiing, fishing, kayaking, and was big into cycling, which helped him stay fit well into his 80's.
Walter is survived by his daughters Christine of Schofield, WI and Lorrie of Bringham City, UT along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and many other beloved family members and friends.
Preceding him in death are his youngest sister Suzanne of Denver, CO along with all of his many brothers and sisters.
Walter and Christine would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and doctors at Aspirus Hospital and to Comfort Care; Christy, Brenda, Lori, Tanya, Dawn and the after hours nurses, who all came up with great ideas to help in a difficult situation and Gage with hospice services. You all made Walt smile, "Thank You!"
A graveside burial service will be held in July or August at Minocqua Memorial Cemetery.
