Our loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend John Wegner, 80, of Woodruff, passed away on November 13, 2022 at Aspirus Seasons of Life Hospice in Woodruff. He was born on September 5, 1942 to the late Armin & Vera Wegner. John grew up in Muskego and graduated from Muskego High School in 1961 and married the love of his life Donna on September 19, 1964. They welcomed their only daughter Mary Ann to the world in August of 1967.
John and his family lived in Muskego, where he worked for B&T Mail Services delivering mail and other goods around the midwest and around the country. One of his favorite hobbies in his younger days was stock car racing, spending many a Saturday night at Hales Corners Speedway enjoying dirt track racing. He would often bring his family to Hilltop Cottages in Hazelhurst for summer vacations and in 1981, the family decided to live the northwoods dream, and moved to the Minocqua area permanently. He always enjoyed the quiet northwoods lifestyle, whether it was out on the boat fishing, in bowling and horseshoe leagues, or enjoying the picnic table on the deck with a cup of coffee. John spent the rest of his career as a truck driver for Trapp Brothers in Arbor Vitae, retiring in 2007. In retirement, he enjoyed tinkering in the garage or in the yard, going for his daily rides in the truck, spending his time at home with Donna until her unexpected passing in 2014, but also spending time with his family and with his friends, particularly his friends at pulmonary rehab at Howard Young. He also greatly enjoyed spending time on Facebook, sharing witty comments and funny memes with all of us.
He is survived by his daughter Mary Ann, grandchildren Bobby (Bri) Knox and Kaitlyn (Orlando) Roman, great granddaughter Vera Roman, great grand-dogs Muddy Buddy and Nikki, great grand-cat Nova, brothers Richard (Jane) Wegner and Ed (Bonnie) Wegner, sisters-in-law Donna McCormac Wegner, Virginia Wegner, Gloria Gestl, Peggy Salentine, Marilyn Salentine, Marieann Salentine, brother-in-law Ken Gestl, many nieces and nephews, special friends Sharon Saunders, Rachel Gustafson, Judy Farrow, Robin DesMarais, Dave Lorenzoni, and Carol Malden, and many Facebook friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years Donna, brothers Jeff Wegner and Donald Wegner, brothers-in-law Harvey Salentine, John Salentine, Roy Salentine and Walter Salentine, sister-in-law Marjorie Salentine, and nephews Scott Salentine and Tony Bill Salentine.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday November 19, 2022 at Nimsgern Funeral & Cremation Services, 1025 Margaret Street, Woodruff WI 54568 from Noon until 2:00pm. Per John’s wishes, please feel comfortable to dress in casual attire.
