Obituary for Arthur P Fruhman

Arthur P. Fruhman of Winchester, WI passed away on June 28, 2021 after 98 years of living life to the fullest. He was born in Milwaukee to Joseph and Anna (Ederegger) Fruhman. He graduated from Rufus King High School where he played soccer. He joined the Navy during World War II, doing maintenance and repair on airplanes in Hawaii for the war effort. After the war, he returned to Milwaukee where he met his wife, Angeline Oniszcuk. After three weeks they became engaged and after 3 months they were married. They recently celebrated their 74th anniversary.
Arthur spent his career as a lithographer, printing the boxes that were used for cereal, tissues, etc. as well as part time at the News Graphic newspaper based in Cedarburg, WI. As children were added to the family, Art and Angie moved from Brown Deer to Mequon where they had a 1 acre lot. He started a large garden and started grafting trees to get a tree that might produce different types of apples and pears. He was always experimenting and learning. Besides his gardening, he studied butterflies, started making homemade wine, and loved seeing new places. Every summer he took the family to vacation in northern Wisconsin so that he could fish, sail, and enjoy nature.
He also purchased some land near Holy Hill in Wisconsin and had a small lake dug utilizing the many springs in the area. There were many cookouts and sleepovers held there especially during the summer holidays. Planting evergreen trees and lively volleyball games were common activities often followed by a dip in the cold spring water.
At retirement Art and Angie decided to become snowbirds. They tested out several spots in the south finally choosing Port Charlotte in Florida for their winters. WInchester, Wi became their home for the summers. There were gardens and tree planting ( he was affectionately known as Arthur Pinetree) at each location and fishing was a source of fun and food. He nurtured about 30 monarch butterflies from egg to butterfly each year. Art freely gave advice about gardening and trees as well as teaching sailing at the North Lakeland Discovery Center and how to play marbles to the youngsters who attended the Presque Isle Days.
He is survived by his children Marcia (Kenneth) Elliott, Jeanette Fruhman and Joyce Fruhman, his grandchildren Benjamin (Amanda) Elliott, Jesse (Frost) Michalica, Danielle (Riley) Houston, Christina Couch, Alex Ryan, and Corey Elliott, and his great grandchildren Carolyn and David Elliott, and Brooklyn, Brielle, Bryson, and Brynlee Williams.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Anna Fruhman, his toddler son James, his brother Walter Fruhman and two infant granddaughters.
A Funeral Mass will be said on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 11 AM at St. Rita's Catholic Church, 11568 Lake St., Presque Isle, Wi. officiated by Father Showri Jojappa Pasala (Father Joseph). Visitation begins at 10 AM at the church. A military ceremony will be held immediately following the Mass. His ashes will be retained to be buried with his wife Angeline when she passes.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the North Lakeland Discovery Center in Manitowish Waters, WI in memory of Arthur Fruhman or to a charity of your choice.
